Intro
When a photograph is presented in court as documentary evidence, it is often treated as irrefutable proof that an event occurred in a certain way, which is paradoxical given our knowledge that images can be open to interpretation and are manipulated easily. Images can be interpreted in various ways and may reasonably support varying and even contrasting “truths,” which is why the truth value of photography has been the subject of scrutiny and discourse in various contexts. Thus the argument goes, photographic truth is a myth.
