Intro

Many people have argued both for and against the idea that photographs are objective representations of the real world that provide unbiased truth since the middle of the nineteenth century. In some cases, photographs have been used to authenticate a person’s claimed historical presence. Some World War II survivors, for instance, reassured long-lost relatives of their continued existence by sending them photographs shortly after the end of the war.
